Stretch marks or striae are commonly found in the skin of most people especially the adults. These stretch marks would appear when a person is growing either in height or putting on some weight. In the life of a person, there would really come a time wherein having stretch marks is inevitable therefore the only way on how to remove these stretch marks in the body is through early detection and treatment because these stretch marks gets harder to remove as the age of a person becomes older.

How do stretch marks look like?

It is not difficult to miss stretch marks because they are visible to the naked eye. Stretch marks would appear as fine white lines (or hypo pigmented lines) on the skin surface. They usually appear in either straight lines or zigzag lines sometimes appearing similar to the lines that is being created by lightning during a stormy weather.

Where in the body are these stretch marks located?

Stretch marks are located in the body parts wherein the skin is easily stretched. The most common place would be the abdomen. The abdomen can increase its size and stretch the skin when a person gets fat or when a girl gets pregnant. Other places for stretch marks would be the arms, legs and buttocks. Therefore if you are on a watch for stretch marks, these areas are the first places that you should look for stretch marks.

Who gets stretch marks?

As mentioned a while ago, everyone could get stretch marks. But the population that is most prone to stretch marks would be those in the puberty stage wherein growth and development of the body is most rapid; women who are pregnant; and anyone who puts on weight.

What are the treatments for the stretch marks?

Stretch marks could be removed by either topical treatment or laser therapy. When the person’s stretch mark is still mild (or not that prominent), one can just apply a generous amount of topical treatment on the affected skin daily until the stretch marks would disappear. However, there have been issues regarding the efficacy of these topical treatments when removing stretch marks. One must make sure that the ingredients found in these topical treatments would contain derivatives of Vitamin A in order for it to be effective.

The more promising treatment for stretch marks would be laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. With this type of treatment, the removal of the stretch marks would be faster and the results are promising. This type of treatment is usually done for those who have chronic or long-standing stretch marks already since this type of stretch mark is more difficult to remove. However, this method is expensive as well but the good thing is that one no longer needs to wait for many days or weeks in order for their stretch marks to be removed. The results would usually come in effect after just one session.

Therefore, if one wishes to have his or her stretch marks removed, one can just choose among these two treatments whichever suits them best.
