"Not Politics- An Interview With David McLetchie"

About David McLetchie:
At the start of July we went to interview David McLetchie,the leader of the Scottish Conservative Party and these are the questions we asked him.

Q. We live in a small village and large companies were trying to build open cast coal mines.They ruin the countryside and look unattractive to tourists, do you have any polices for stopping open cast coal mines?

A. Mr McLetchie said that he is not against open cast coal mining. He says it provides jobs and should be allowed provided the land is restored after the coal has been extracted.

Q. Do you think Scottish Parliament is a good idea and will it work for Scotland?

A. He said it is now a reality and it can do a lot of good things for Scotland if it passes the right laws.

Q. What's your favourite football team? Who is your best player?

A. His favourite team is Hearts . His best player is Colin Cameron.

Q. Our Village hall was supposed to have an extension a long time ago is there any way you can speed the process up?

A. He said he would ask the council why nothing is being done.

Q. We have no indoor facilities in our village to go when it is raining.

A. Mr McLetchie told us to stay inside until the council builds a new hall with facilities for young people.

Q. What is your favourite food and where do you like to eat it?

A. He like eating prawns at Skippers restaurant in Leith.

Q. In our primary school the gym equipment is not up to standard of secondary school. What could you do to help us?

A. We could help ourselves by raising funds through sponsored walks and cycles and then ask the council to help out with the rest of the money.

Q. The vandalism is bad in our Village. What do you do to control vandalism?

A.Have more police patrolling to stop it and punish people caught by making them do community service to repair the damage.

Q. What kind of car do you have and what kind of car would you like to have?

A. Saab(old) but I would like a Saab(new)

Q. Bullying in schools can be serious do you have any ideas to stop it?

A. Teachers and parents could get together and stop bullies by punishing them more severely eg by excluding them from school.

Q. Pollution is a problem in Scotland how will you cut it down in the future?

A. Pollution is already being cut down and the Government is spending lots of money on cutting down on pollution. Everyone has a role to play in this in our daily lives eg don't drop litter and recycling rubbish.

Q.Do you ever get noticed in the streets? And is it annoying?

A. Yes I do get noticed but it is not annoying.

What do you do?

Working Time:
David McLetchie gets up at 07:30, starts work at 09:00 and goes to bed at 00:00

Travelling:
David McLetchie travels for 0.75 hours every day and travels 3/4 miles mostly by Car

Where do you spend most of your day?
David McLetchie spends most of the day in the workplace (In Scottish Parliament Chambers) and meets around 6-10 people a day

How does David McLetchie use technology in a normal day?
I use a mobile phone and pager

Leisure:
David McLetchie spends 5 Hours on a favourite leisure pursuit, which is "Golf"

What different kinds of work has David McLetchie done?
I have been a lawyer since I left university in 1974.

David McLetchie is 47 years old
