Letter to the Prime Minister
by Nathan B. (9)

My letter to the Prime Minister
This years Lloyds / Waterstone letter writing competition in Medway was won by Isabelle N. (Year 4), of Maundene County Primary School. She won a 25 pound book token for herself and 500 pounds worth of book tokens for her school. Contestants were judged on content, inventiveness and originality, presentation, grammar and spelling. Runners up were Nathan B, also of Maundene County Primary School (Year 4) and Rachael C. of Barnsole County Junior School (Year 6) who also received book tokens.

The competition was judged by Susan Roughley - Lloyd's, Sue Graveling - Waterstone's, Murray Evans - AKN, James Blomfield - TescoSchoolNet 2000 and Toni Clarke of the Medway Education Business Partnership who also organised the event.

Here is Nathan's letter:

Dear Mr Blair,

I am writing to say that I would like some new things in Maudene school for the millennium so that life in school can be a lot of fun.

I would like to see Year 6 do some basic chemistry experiments to make science fun and so they can learn more about chemicals and acids.

I would also like there to be a Maudene School Website on the internet. I would love to see Key Stage Two spending more time on the computer. I would also like to see children to be on computers on the web and go to their favourite website.

I believe there should be virtual reality headsets for history and maybe science. I am sure that would be a lot of fun.

I think people should come to school on the millennium and have a massive party or a disco all night and the first song they should play first of all would be 'Millennium' by Robbie Williams.

I think there should be a Maudene School magazine so they can have things to do over the weekend like colouring, puzzles and stories and things like that to do and maybe even a free CD ROM for the computer at home or in school if we haven't got one at home.

And for the rounders club we could make a team and play against other teams in Medway. In the summer there could be a tournament and the winners get medals and they are the best teams in Medway. I think Maudene School should have a new uniform, I think it should be silver because I did a survey and they wanted that colour and because it is shiny and so it stands out. I wish there could be more school trips and things.

I think for assemblies we should surf through the net and go to our best websites. I think there should be longer lessons for science because there is a lot to learn about and also because science is interesting

I have wrote this letter to say that these are the new things I would like in Maudene School for the millennium.

Yours sincerely,

Nathan B.
Mayor of Medway
