Why We Are Against Wind Turbines, Mitchell and Will, 10, West Yorkshire UK
Wind turbines spoil great views and make low humming noises that annoy local villages that are near them. They also kill lots of birds every year including the golden eagle and other rare birds. The blades of the wind farms make big shadows across villages which annoy people. Also if there is no wind the turbines do not generate any electricity so that means that some people will not get as much electricity as other people. These are the reasons why we do not want wind farms in England or the world.

Xav and Hutchie say,"Windmills are not always good but they do have their advantages and we want to keep them and these are the reasons why. Wind is free and that means that we get free electricity. And they need no fuel. Windmills also produce no waste or greenhouse gases. And plus they can be used as tourist attractions. The land beneath can usually still be used for farming with or without wind farms and it is also a good way of supplying energy in we need more electricity and it electricity to remote areas."

What is a wind farm? by Archie and Rasit, West Yorkshire UK

A wind farm is a place where there are lots of wind turbines. Wind turbines are things that the wind pushes the propellers around, to make electricity and energy. Wind farms can be placed practically anywhere. They can be placed in the sea, on land, on top of buildings and rocky areas. On a wind farm there are about 111 wind turbines. A wind turbine is about 20 storeys high. researchers analyse the performance and strength of components such as wind turbine blades. Sometimes the ultimate strength of the blade is tested by bending it until it breaks. In non-destructive tests, the blades are embedded with sensors to study vibrations from hand-held hammers or ground-mounted shakers. Special coatings change colour as the blades are bent or twisted, allowing researchers to see where stress could cause problems during actual operation. Sophisticated computer models help researchers analyse the results of these tests and improve future designs.

Turbines or not turbines? by Jennifer and Jacey, 10, West Yorkshire UK

If people thought that wind turbines spoiled the view of the countryside the other alternatives would be the energy from the sun, biomass, geothermal, hydrogen and fuel cells, buildings, advanced vehicles and fuels so that the wind turbines don't ruin the views and beauties of the countryside. So we think that there should be different alternatives than wind turbines because we are running out of land.

Why do we need electricity?, by Edward, 11 and Charles, 10, West Yorkshire UK

We need electricity because people with electric cookers wouldn't be able to cook food, they would have to have a new cooker fitted such as a gas cooker or an Aga. Factory machines wouldn't be able to run so you wouldn't have many of the things you have today such as t-shirts trousers ties etc, they would all have to be hand made. If you didn't have electricity you wouldn't have any lights the only sort of light you would have would be candles. If you didn't have electricity you would not have computers or any games consoles you even wouldn't be able to have mobile phones because you have to charge them up every so often. You wouldn't have any CD players. Traffic lights can't work without electricity just think of all the accidents that would happen then. And remember the populations growing and so is technology so we are using more electricity. See if you could think of any more?

Living without electricity, by Tom and Hayden, 10, West Yorkshire
Most people think that a power cut is a big problem, though not that long ago there was no electricity and life was fine without electricity. When there was no electricity people used gas cookers or a wood Aga to cook food and candles or gas lights to give light. It was a simple life before this beast named electricity was invented. Some people know that living without electricity is a lot easier than it seems. In the 70's there was a thing called the "Back to the Land" movement which is a where someone lives without electricity now it is known as homesteading.

If cars could run on water, by Anthony, 11, West Yorkshire UK
I would like to make the world a better place by inventing a vichercal that dose not run on fule. e.g. desil, unleaded, etc

I would like to invent a car that can run on water instead of a fule. This way the ozone layer dose not get destroyed and I think that when someone has an acsident people can get out of the car easy because there would be no fule to explode. The world would be a safer and happyer place if cars could run on water.

Ramit,12, says, "I would like to invent a car which cannot give off fumes and to stop pollution it is not run by petrol and is free so that anyone can buy it. By doing this it will help the earth we live in and by keeping the air clean and not polluted. This way the Ozone layer will not get destroyed and it will keep the earth clean."

Environmentally Friendly Car, by Isaac, 12, West Yorkshire UK
I would invent an environmentally friendly car that uses water as fuel. It would also have a solar powered engine, by having solar panels on the roof you could charge it up. It would have lightweight body frame, so that it wouldn't use up so many natural materials. This design would help stop Global Warming; an average car releases so many environmentally harmful gases each day. The fact that this happens people try ignore. The car would help the world.

Solar powered boats, by Pascal, 12, West Yorkshire UK
I would like to make the world a better place by inventing solar powered boats.

By inventing a type of boat that would stop boats giving of fumes like a solar powered boat that would stop pollution because it would stop global warming and it would stop the polar ice caps from melting asmuch an d not as much animals will die from pollution and it is a advantage for war fare because if the boat is hit by two missiles. It would not burn as much because it has no petrol or coal and if it is shot at night you have got a blackish blue colour so it will be verchally impossible to see at night and not that easy to see at day because most solar panels are blackish blue and plus they will not need to refuel so in steed of going to a foren island and taking a long time to get there in half the time than that it would of taken using a boat that would have to refill.
