5 Steps to Cyberspace
The SchoolNet publishing process takes children through five easy steps to publishing their work to the world:
1. Find Out
Choose a project and plan your investigation.
Research your project and interview people in their communities, using the Interview Template to structure your questions.
2. Sort
Collate, organise, interpret and edit the data you have collected.
Decide how to present it to an Internet audience.
3. Create
To create your page, you can write up your text using a word processor then cut and paste it into your SchoolNet Global web page. To illustrate your article you could use a digital photograph or scan in a drawing or painting. Save any photographs or pictures onto your own computer and then upload it to your home page by clicking BROWSE.
4. Check
Print your page so interviewees can check their writing and sign an Approval Form to confirm they are happy for the page to be published. Check that you have copyright permission for any images or text that you plan to publish and ensure that you have not included any personal information.
5. Show
You can now submit your work for publication to the worldwide Internet audience. There are three stages:
- Tick the FINISHED box to say your work is ready.
- Teachers or Parents will see the finished work on their own home pages. Check it is suitable for publication then APPROVE to publish, or uncheck the child's approval box to send it back to the child.
- All pages that have been approved by the teacher or parent are checked again by the SchoolNet Global Teacher Advisers before they are published.
