Garbage Duty- Sara & Lauren, British Columbia Canada
Garbage Duty At Doncaster - Sara & Lauren, British Columbia Canada British Columbia is in Canada. There are so many things to do in Canada. Niagara Falls which is in Ontario is a really nice place too.
In our school we have Garbage Duty. Garbage Duty is where a class goes outside and picks up all of the litter that's on the playgrounds and fields. A class does this every week, or every other week. We do this to make sure that our school stays nice and clean and it helps the environment a lot too! What's nice about it is that the children choose to do this. They don't have to if they don't want to. If you ever come to visit, you'll know what I'm talking about. Your school should do something like our Garbage Duty too. If you read this spread the news around to all of your friends to help the world stay clean and healthy forever.

Beware of Epouvantails
If you are travelling in France this Summer and see this sign. Stop your car and go see the display of Epouvantails. It means Scarecrows. Some villages run scarecrow competitions. Grown ups and kids make them from any old junk and old clothes. You will see lots of them all over the fields.

Save our Beautiful Forest
Here in Victoria, British Columbia we have the most fantastic forests. All these animals live in the forest - grizzly bears, wolverines, spotted owls and bald eagle and we have to look after them. We are worried about a new project called Working Forest which will make it easy for people to chop the forest down for logs. We've got lots of logs washed up on our beach that no one wants.

Wind Energy Works
Did you know that you can get energy from the wind? Here in Copenhagen, Denmark we wanted a wind farm for our city. But there is no room to put up wind turbines, so we put them in the sea! Middelgrunden Wind Farm has 20 turbines (huge fans on long legs) that make lots of electricity. We found out that the wind farm is a cooperative because over 8000 people own shares of it. If you ever visit us in Copenhagen, you will see it. It's a beautiful sight.

Maypole Dancing, and the Children's Well Dressing
During Wakes Week the children of Litton put on a show of maypole dancing to raise money for the local playground appeal. The children dress up in Victorian costume and do dances such as the Barber’s Pole and the Single Plait. They also dance a country dance called the Bridge of Athlone. In the school, the adults put together a tearoom with cakes and buns for sale.
Well dressing – (blessing) is to give thanks for water, and spring turning into summer and new life. Everyone takes part in putting the wells together and putting them up on the green.
Every year, on the Tuesday night during Wakes Week, there is a fair with bouncy castles, teacup rides and trampolines. It goes on from 7.00pm to 10.00pm. At 10.00pm there is a torchlight procession where Cressbrook Band play a tune and everyone else dances while walking down the road.

We Love Sam Francis
We've just got back from a school trip to Paris. The best part was a visit to the Pompidou Center. It's a huge art gallery. The artist we liked best was Sam Francis. His pictures are just amazing. Some are enormous and you can sit there and get lost in all the colours. You don't have to go to Paris to see them. His pictures are all over the world. Here are some of the places. National Gallery of Art - Washington D.C. Louisiana Museum of Modern Art - Denmark Cleveland Museum of Art - Ohio Fine Arts Museums - San Francisco, Kunstmuseum - Basel, Switzerland, Tate Gallery - London, UK.

Walk to School Day - Samantha, Julie & Morgan BC, Canada.
At my school, we do lots of things to help the enviroment. We collect juice boxes, pop cans and plastic bottles that sometimes get turned into different things. At our school we also have a day called Walk to School Day! It is a day where we try to get as many students as we can to walk to school. Of course you have to live close enough to walk. If you walk to school on that day you get rewarded! On our basketball court, we have a couple students and parents and a couple of teachers to hand out the goodies! Last year we got bagels and a juicebox and this year we got an apple and a sticker. We do this here because the cars pollute things into the air and we don't want that at all!

Keeping Healthy by Emily and Abbie, Folkestone, UK
Are you fit or unfit?
According to the Government Food Standards Agency, one in five children is overweight because they have an unhealthy diet and do not exercise enough. Emily and Abbie say:
We should keep ourselves healthy because if we don't we will not live as long as other people. You should cut down on fizzy drinks and crisps because they are really bad for you. We should play more sports to keep ourselves fit and healthy. Try to not play on your playstations very much because your not doing enough excercise. About 10 years ago people kept more fit because the didn't have t.v. controllers they had to go and turn it on by the tv switch. They didn't have very many cars so they had to walk everywhere. Now a days there is only about a quarter of a class what was fit but about 10 years ago there would of been nearly a whole class what was fit. If you don't do all of these things you will get overweight. You should keep yourself fit and healthy.
KEEP YOURSELF FIT!
Great Ormond Street children's hospital are using a traffic light scheme to help overweight children and their families to choose the right things to eat. They recommend that "Red" foods, such as crisps, chocs and takeaways should only be eaten as treats once or twice a week. "Amber" foods, such as protein, carbohydrate and dairy products must be eaten in healthy portions, and "Green" foods - you've guessed it - fruit and vegetables can be eaten as often as you like.
And did you know that eating 5 portions of fruit and veg a day can protect you from nasty diseases like Cancer and Heart Disease when you are older.
