Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior Wins
We live on the Baltic Sea, where dirty old oil tankers have been making the sea dirty. Now a new law has been passed to make the Baltic a "Particularly Sensitive Sea Area". This means people will have to look after the sea and keep it clean. We are grateful to Greenpeace, especially the crew of the Rainbow Warrior. They raced around in rubber boats in the oil ports to stop dirty tankers docking. In the end they won and we will all have a clean sea.

On thursday 15th of february our year ones and twos had a victorian day.The teachers were very strict and they had the cane which they they used to use on naughty children.Iam glad that my teacher is'nt like that today or i would hate going to school.a lot of children did'nt go to school, becuse there families were poor and they had to go out to work to bring some money back to their families, children as young as five and six had to work down mines and in cotton mills working in terrible and dangerous conditions.

Threat to Beauty Spot, by Hannah,15, UK
I live in Derbyshire, England, in the heart of the Peak District, famed for its rugged countryside and breathtaking views. Nearby is Stanton Moor, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Stanton Moor is a popular attraction for climbers, walkers and other visitors. It is an extraordinary place that looks as if it could have been brought to life from a Tolkein novel.

Stanton is home to the Nine Ladies stone circle, between three and four thousand years old and thought to have been built for pagan rituals honouring the Sun and Moon. The main attraction of the moor is its sense of tranquillity which may well be destroyed completely by present plans to quarry massive amounts of stone from the area. Many people are protesting against this idea, which would undoubtedly spoil the place. I feel that Stanton Moor is important for many people and that it should definitely be preserved.

The snow has gone!
The snow has gone!
My news is it's been snowing and it's been very very cold. School was closed because it was snowing. And because the teachers couldn't get to school. Instead we went sledging.
Celebrating Tolstoy's 175th Birthday, by Ana and Sasha, 17, Lithuania
Leo Tolstoy, 1909
Leo Tolstoy, 1909
We're students of Pajurio School from Klaipeda, Lithuania.

On the 21 of April the students of our school took part in one of the most remarkable events organized by the town association of Russian Literature teachers "VEDI" annually. This year the event was dedicated to 175 Birthday of an outstanding Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. Students were to put on a short play on one of Tolstoy's works. We chose one scene from his famous book "WAR AND PEACE". We had had a lot to do: mug our parts, make the costumes of 19th century, learn to walk and dance like ladies of that time. On the day of the performance we were very nervous. But we did well. They say it was perfect. Thanks to our teacher of Russian Literature Ala Baklanova ,the director of the play, we became famous in Klapeda.
Kindness Week by Natalie, 10, Victoria, Canada

Find out who was kind to Adam(9)
At our school we have a week ( that has actually turned into a month) called Kindness week. If we do something nice or help another person we get a thing called a Kindness Ticket. All of the Kindness tickets are put into a little box in the office and at the end of each week our principal draws a couple of names and the people who he has called out get a small prize like a pencil or something like that. Kindness week has gone on for about 2 months now. Our principal has also come up with another plan. We have to play safely and if we don't we have to miss an extended recess. There are people outside who monitor us when we play. That's how they tell if we are good or bad. If we are bad the monitors tell us they will write our name on a little clipboard that they carry around everywhere, even in the morning.

Charlotte (10) from Victoria says, "Every time we get 500 kindness tickets, we get an extended recess."

At my School, in January we all did a mini marathon for Whizz kids and we rose about 4000. Whizz kids is a place for non-Mobile children who get look after and cared for. Other people also do stuff like running the London marathon people like Michael Dickson and Dr Ricky Richardson. They both ran the London marathon in 1990 for a young girl which had Cerebral Palsy. They rose 9,000 pounds to provide a powered wheelchair for the young girl. They went on to set up Whizz kids. Whizz kids have helped 3,881 children through out the world.

Chris G says, "Non-mobile children can not move as well as we can, some can not walk and it is not fear because they have more disabilities that we do like they can not kick a ball if they want to, so we give them a better life."

At least 90 people have died and around 120,000 made homeless as a result of weeks of heavy rain. Since all the floods are in the Northeastern part of Brazil, the Brazilians could have a satellite telling them if a tidal wave is to start floods. Then another tidal wave, strong enough to hit stop the tidal wave. Once the tidal wave and the other wave clashes, the one that hit the one hitting Brazil will be stopped.

A Fragile Environment Endangered by Man by Magala E, Uganda
Mountain Gorilla
Mountain Gorilla
The Bwindi impenetrable forest is home to the famous mountain gorillas whose numbers are dwindling like the leaves of a deciduous tree. Every day trees are cut in hundreds by money thirsty men, and poverty stricken poachers kill the gorillas unheeded. Trucks swam in like bees and the rangers are bribed so that the carcasses can be marketed abroad for a handsome price.

At an environmental conference with rangers and other environmental activists, I chanced to interview a thin, gawky forest ranger who declined to give his name and said, The government does not pay in time, how can we curb the this vice then.

At the end of the conference those who depended on the forests for a livelihood were given saplings to plant new trees.
