Geraldine Campbell's early childhood memory:
One of my early memories is listening to my grandad`s stories of his experiences in the Second World War.
About Geraldine Campbell's early childhood memory:
My Grandpa
This is a piece of writing about my grandpa. He is called John Falconer Davidson. He is 78 years old right now, and fought for all of World War 2 as a Gordon Highlander in Regiment 51st division. The thing that my grandpa remembers most in the war was when he went to France and got captured after 7 months in Saint Vallery. They were captured there for 5 years. In the war they were defending Dunkirk before getting captured in Saint Vallery. They had to walk through France, Belgium and then Holland and then went on to a coal barge on the River Rhine. He then went on a train for three days where it took them to a Stalag 8 in Germany. Over the 5 years my grandpa John Falconer Davidson was in 5 different prisoner of war working camps. In the working camps he had to work in the coal mines and in a stone quarry. While my grandpa was in the war he learnt some German. At the end of the war my grandpa was in Czechoslovakia where he had to make his own way to Prague. From Prague he went on to Pilsen where the American lines were and it was safe. Then they went from Brussels to Orkleys in England where they stayed for a week and then came home to Aberdeen. My grandpa John Falconer Davidson is a very brave man and enjoys telling me and my family about his early memories of World War 2.
