My Mum
My Mum

Carol Moncur's early childhood memory:
“I remember when I was 8. My Mum had just let me go to the beach for the first time on my own. I was going to go crabbing with my friends. We had a big bucket, and we caught around 80 crabs. Later on I went home to have some lunch. Before I went in I left the bucket outside the back door. After lunch Mum went to put the rubbish in the bin and all the 80 crabs were crawling and running all over the windows and the doors some even managed to crawl into the house for a minute all I could hear was my Mum screaming.”

About Carol Moncur's early childhood memory:
My Mum also told me about something she did when she was 20.....

“It was a cold wet windy night in January. I was 20 years old and was coming home in my little white mini car with my friend, following a night out at a disco. All I had on was a pair of strappy sandals and a short halter neck dress. We were driving towards Mersea Island across the Strood which is a road connecting the Island to mainland Colchester. As we drove over the Strood the sea had flooded the road and my car hit a wall of water and flooded. The car had obviously stalled in the middle of the road. As we got out the water came flooding in the car and the tide was rising rapidly, we were soon thigh deep in icy cold sea water as we tried to push the car out. Fortunately we were rescued by a man whose house over looked the bridge and he took us to dry off. However, it finished my little mini off!”

Carol Moncur is 42 years old now and was 8 years old at the time.
