The Famous White Cliffs
The Famous White Cliffs
Our school is in Folkestone where the White Cliffs stand.
We are lucky to live in Folkestone because it is on the South East Coast.
Earlier this term, on a hot September's day our two year four classes walked down to the Warren.
The cliffs on the Warren are made out of chalk and are white. Did you know that chalk was made from millions of tiny sea creatures that lived thousands of years ago and used to be under the sea.
The beach has got sand, pebbles, coloured glass, shells, fossils of ammonites and ferns and it also has groynes on it.
The groynes are made out of wood and stop the waves taking away all the beach, as they help break up the waves. The waves come from our sea here, which is the English Channel.
We searched for pebbles with holes through them, seaweed, shells and fossils.
We threw pebbles into the sea and jumped over the waves.
This visit was linked with our geography about our local environment.
